Lucinda J. Davis divorced her husband in Colorado in 1890 and moved her children to the upper Skagit river to live on a claim belonging to her brother, who drowned in that water. Over the next 39 years she and her family, of Frank, Glee and Idessa, lived in three different houses on two properties, across the river from the site of present Marblemount and up the Skagit at Cedar Bar, on Stetattle Creek. They hacked their own way in the wilderness, made comfortable homes and provided a roadhouse for weary travelers to the gold fields and other sources of minerals in the North Cascades. We feature many stories about them.
