Our offer of a set of CDs for you or for gifts
CD #1 is done, #2 and #3 in production

After overcoming some technical and design problems that we encountered along the way, we are happy to announce that we have our first CD to offer to our patient readers. We decided on two redesigns along the way that caused considerable delays. We have delayed production of the additional CDs because we have received many copies of documents and photos in the winter and spring of 2008 that caused us to go back and update more than 30 stories of the upper Skagit River settlement. We are also trying to re-design our collection, so we went back to square one once again and we decided to employ the "KISS format:" Keep It Simple, Stupid. We hope that you will be satisfied with the end product if you decide to order it for yourself or for gifts for your family, friends or clients, especially for those who do not live here or for students or those serving in the armed forces. Thank you very much for all of you who ordered CDs for Christmas gifts.

How we planned the CDs
We have received an increasing number of requests for copies in MS Word or other text format for our nearly 600 stories in the Journal. So we have embarked on a project to share our features on a set of CDs. In addition we are asked often if we plan to offer a hard-copy version of the Subscribers-Paid Journal online magazine. The answer to the latter is no. We learned our lesson when we tried to publish a print magazine in 1993-94. To pay for the increasingly high printing costs of such a magazine, we would need a subscriber base of at least 1000, paying $25 or more per year, and such a magazine would require full-time attention and additional staff to sell advertising to pay for the project. We prefer instead to spend a majority of time and our limited funds on researching stories for our readers and preparing for an eventual book.
In answer to the original question, however, we do have an "open source" policy, which means we want to share our research and discoveries with as many people as possible, whether or not they have access to the Internet. To advance that goal, we have started assembling a collection of CDs that will include MS Word files of our pioneer profiles and town profiles from years 1-5 of the Journal, along with a selection of photos. That will permit buyers to print the files individually at their convenience. They are organized by region: Sedro-Woolley and surrounding area; Upper Skagit River from Utopia to Cascades; western Skagit County and stories from other counties. Each CD will include a table of contents in the form of a read-me file, which will help you navigate the disc. Below you will find the planned contents for each CD and here you will find the prices for ordering and the production schedule for the remaining CDs.
